Ages 5 to 10 Years
LHTA loosely follows the USTA 10 and Under Tennis program guidelines. These guidelines recommend that children under the age of 10 play tennis with smaller rackets, lower compression balls, and on a shorter court. While playing at LHTA, children should bring rackets that are sized appropriately. We will also use lower compression balls to allow children to learn more quickly. These balls bounce more slowly enabling students to learn more quickly.
Beginner classes will play with orange compression balls, which are 50% slower than a regular tennis ball. Additionally, students will play on courts that have been shortened to 60 feet. Advanced Beginner Classes will use green compression balls on a full sized court. The green ball bounces 25% slower and is slightly lighter than a standard yellow tennis ball.
